Lloyd Kaufman Roast
This year SDCC held a special event, 35 YEARS OF TROMA a comedy roast Tribute for Lloyd Kaufman the President of Troma Films, hosted by my friend Adam Green. I have known Lloyd for quite some time now, and it’s always awesome to hear his voice call out “Hey Spook!” He is a one of a kind force of nature who really believes in indie film and indie TV. While he is out promoting what is essentially a bunch of crappy movies that have the Troma logo stamped on them, Kaufman himself is a genuine supporter of people following their dreams. During the roast celebs came out and ribbed him, and he took it all in stride with smiles hugs and kisses for all…until the end when he turned the tables on the panel and roasted them right back. When the insults came around to Adam Green, Lloyd joked that the only reason Hatchet was successful was because Adam was blowing the “so-called horror journalists”, to which he followed up with “the shit you tasted on SpookyDans’ dick was mine”. The entire room laughed, but I was literally in tears laughing about this…he didn’t even know I was in the audience, and he brought me in on the fun. Without any question, this was the coolest Comic con moment for me in history!

Repo Shadow Cast streamed live!

History was made, and I had a small part in it! This year Repo screened with the shadowcast Addicted to the Knife performing the entire show. My poster artwork was being used for promotion on the screening, which was quite humbling and kick ass. And Dread Central streamed the whole event LIVE, over 900 people from around the world showed up online to see what the hell all the hoopla was about. The crowd was one of the loudest and fun I have seen yet. Through all of my Repo travels, each event seems to be better than the last one…it just getting bigger and bigger! You can watch the whole event here:

Life Changes …I want your answer!

Category: bloghorrorrepo

If you have been following my adventures online you know that I am full on in Documentary mode. I have been following around the Film Repo for quite some time, and a few months back it was glaringly apparent that there is a story here that needed to be told. I was admittedly hesitant to get onboard to the extent that I have, but I am very happy to have been on this journey. A journey that has taken me all over the world and back, a few times! The finale to this is going to be at Comic Con on July 25th, and I hope to see you all there.

So as I enter into the editing phase of the process I am struck with a decision…what’s next? We all know that the best time to get a job is when you already have one…so what do “I” do next? Back to one of my many side projects (puppets ,Pirate TV, Screenplay)

Do I maybe get a day job, or do another fandom documentary? I have always wanted to make a “real” movie (who hasn’t?) Or I could even follow Repo on further adventures.

But the more I think on this decision, the more I realize that I real am missing the horror scene. It’s something I still talk about on a daily basis. And a few VERY INTERESTING prospects had come up. So while I weigh in all the options (and feverishly edit away on the Repo documentary) I want to know your opinion. But not so much about me and what to do next, but rather what criteria YOU use to help you decide on the next phase of your life when you see it looking you dead in the face.

Obviously I want to do something I love, and I hope that all of you do the same, BUT what are the criteria to make a big life change? What is most important to you, and why?

June blog of greatness

Category: bloghorrorrepo

I know it has been a really long time since I have written a blog, so forgive the scatterbrained mess. It’s been a busy month!

Artwork:
First, I updated my Deviant art gallery with some artwork that I have been doing over the past year. I have about 5 more pieces that I need to scan to upload, so those should be up soon. While my life has been so crazy busy, one of the things I enjoy doing is painting and doing digital artwork, it keeps me sane. I have not tried to sell any artwork yet, but, I am considering it.

Check out the gallery here:

Movies:
Star Trek: Awesome, I saw it twice!
Terminator: blah… but descent.
Drag Me To Hell: a great return of Raimi to his horror roots, with all the goofiness that we have come to love and expect.
Transformers 2: haven’t seen it yet, but I suppose I will try to make some time for it
Anvil: One of the best films I have seen in years. Seek this one out!
Dead Snow: I am hearing so many mixed reviews of this, and they all make me really excited about it. It is certainly on the top of my must see list, way above Transformers 2.

Music:
In constant rotation: Slipknot, New Marilyn Manson, old Jane’s Addiction, mixed up Guns and Roses, a ton of Aesthetic Perfection! And of course Bale Out has been getting the most play on my Ipod.
