Tonight at Hollywood and Highland was the 9th Annual Screamfest Awards dinner. It was an exciting and fancy affair filled with horror, blood and a few surprises along the way. Dread Central’s Sean Decker hosted the shortest award ceremony in the history of film festivals. At 16 minutes the awards segment of the evening went by like a flash and left loads of time for the open bar. Tonights big winner was Before The Fall with 4 wins, House of the Devil with 2 wins and The Human Centipede taking home the honor for Best Picture. After the ceremony I spoke with the head of the centipede Akihiro Kitamura who joked that “The Oscars are next for The Human Centipede. Best Student Short: Thibault Emin for “Else”
Best Short Film: Erwin van den Eshof for “Harry Doright’s Prelude to Hell”
Best Editing: Nacho Ruiz Capillas for “Before the Fall”
Best Cinematography: Miguel Angel Mora for “Before the Fall”
Best Special FXand VFX: both to “The Revenant”
Best Screenplay: VJ & Justin Boyd for “Hate Night”
Best Musical Score: Jeff Grace for “The House of the Devil”
Best Actor: Victor Clavijo for “Before the Fall”
Best Actress: Jocelin Donahue for “The House of The Devil”
Best Director: F. Javier Gutierrez for “Before the Fall”
Best Picture: “The Human Centipede“
