REPO MEN reviews are coming in (and it isn’t pretty):

The reviews are coming in for the upcoming film Repo Men!

Cole Smithy – www.colesmithy.com

“Repo Men” is a joyless experiment in stupefaction. Like pornography, you know it when you see it, and you’ve seen all before.”

Michael Rechtshaffen – www.hollywoodreporter.com

“Bottom Line: Let the 2010 Razzies race begin!  Comprising reclaimed bits from “Blade Runner,” “A Clockwork Orange” and “Children of Men”

and glibly served up with hyper Guy Ritchie attitude by first-time feature director Miguel Sapochnik, the resulting in-your-face mess never knows what it wants to be when it grows up.

Massawyrm – www.aintitcool.com

“I’d love to see what this guy can do with a script containing a shred of originality. I’m sure it could be pretty bad ass.But this is garbage only digestible by those who are not already sci-fi literate.”

Cinnerd – www.blogcritics.org

“Some directors just can’t help but wear their influences on their sleeves. “

Owen Gleiberman – www.ew.com

“Repo Men, however, just turns into a grisly one-note chase thriller, with Law slaughtering more folks on the run than he ever did as a repo man. C-“

Tom Meek – www.thephoenix.com

“Given the ingenious high concept and the impressive ensemble, Repo Men should have offered some lacerating satire, but

the derivative filmmaking (whole sets and scenes are lifted from Blade Runner, Pulp Fiction, and Old Boy) and reality-show dialogue take the heart right out of it.”

Nick Pinkerton – www.villagevoice.com

“a supercilious inhumanity-of-the-system fable that the invisible hand will mercifully sweep into discount-DVD oblivion.”

http://www.villagevoice.com/2010-03-16/film/repo-men-another-wholesale-dystopian-future/

Miles Dolphin – www. Soundonsight.org

“Not only have moviegoers put up with remake after remake for the past decade or so,

but now Universal Pictures and its visionless executives felt it was necessary to use the exact same storyline as Darren Lynn Bousman’s rock opera.”

http://www.soundonsight.org/repo-men/

Summer Rogers – www.dailytitan.com

“The film is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride and even has some humorous moments. It is also graphic and has plenty of blood and gore to boot, so if you have a queasy stomach,

I would advise skipping this film (perhaps see The Bounty Hunter instead).

The movie is pure entertainment and should be viewed as such, because in some parts of the movie the situations seem a bit unrealistic.”

And a couple of quick blog Comments…

Jon Derek says:

“The story is deadly dull and has been done better elsewhere and far too often.

Whittaker and Law (two actors whose work I really enjoy) have zero chemistry in this film. The story is unrealistic and ultimately pointless with the ol’ twist ending.

Bottom line: bad sci-fi, poorly executed.”

OriginalMemFlix says:

“It’s come time to either accept the CUT-PASTE-REARRANGE of high concept wanna-be blockbusters, or stay away from the theater.”

Eww. There’s repo men ads polluting your screen. Anywho, nice to see how much it’s SUCKING! even though one blogger above made a little jab at RTGO, but i’ll let it pass. :)

First I’ll ask: Am I the only one who’s now let out a sigh of relief?
And then I end with: Testify!

Jude Love

:) Win.

I love that one of them even mentioned REPO!

Well, the critics tore REPO! apart, too. In the end, the movie-goers will decide, and we will see how much of a success it is compared to the amount of effort and money that is invested in advertising it.

Because that is the only basis I can think of to compare the success of a more underground movie like our dear opera and a planned “Blockbuster”.

These reviews had me laughing out loud!
To paraphrase DLB himself: A year from now, nobody will remember this movie. It won’t spawn its own subculture, and nobody is ever going to Shadow Cast it. It will go away, and be forgotten, and we’ll still be spending our Friday nights once a month at The Opera.
P.S. We’re repossessing Jude Law in the Shadow Cats show tomorrow night. Repeatedly.

funny

I like how you talk shit about Repo Men so much on this here blog but then accept ads for the movie.Haha.Money talks, just like on BLoody Disgusting, huh?

Tools.

Myles

My name is Myles with a ‘y’, by the way. :)

Spooky, you are such a Bad Ass. Taking money (I hope) from the Universal shit movie, and then posting the negative posts about it!! Sticking it to the man Luigi style. No wait, maybe it’s Pavi style…No maybe like Rotti pretending to be your friend…no, maybe ahhahahahaha!
When are we going on that college tour for our REPO!!!!!

Dave

And Repo! the Genetic Opera never got any bad reviews at all, right?

god, the senseless bashing that comes from the whole repo vs repo thing just points out how utterly pathetic the Repo! Army is. Remember when you assholes tried to shut down torrents? How’d that work out for ya?

Telgar

funny, your one stupid f*&king idiot you know that, you do realize that Google ad’s are automated and will advertise whatever it feels like depending on the type of ad’s you want posted. Being movie and entertainment is one of the types being posted, and being that Repo Men is a very, heavy advertised movie right now it is completely understandable that it is going to show up now and then. Do you seriously think spooky has time to remove every ad he does not like viewing on his website, or even realizes every ad on it. If your going to be stupid, pick a good reason for it.

Lindsey C. G. "Little Moo"

Haha!
Someone crashed out shadowcast dressed as Jude Law’s repo man.
He was boo-ed.
All in fun though.
We had a great time, the special footage was great only….
it made me want a directer’s cut even more.
Take care.

I actually gave Repo Men a chance. I tried my damnedest to watch it without immediately slagging it off as I am a huge Repo! Opera fan.

Sadly though at every other scene I couldn’t resist the urge to sing bits from our dear opera as Repo Men seemed all a little too close for comfort. I even spotted a poster in the background of the movie which looked awfully like the one of Blind Mag only without her top hat! There were also so many bits and pieces of the film straight from the likes of Bladerunner and other such Sci-Fi greats.

Needless to say, without making any comparisons at all, Repo Men is still a pretty dull and un-original pile of drek. It was so tediously boring, I actually fell asleep half way through! Much to my horror as this meant I had to rewind to watch the end again so I could judge it fairly. I still struggled to make it to the end of this film!

I rate this up there with Twilight… It’s a film that no-one in their right mind can enjoy unless they’re some horny teenager that has never seen anything good in the genre, therefore know nothing about what’s good! It’s another occasion where around 2 hours of my life is wasted and I’ll never get that time back! If I had to rate it at all, it would get 1/10 at best, and I’m being really generous there!
